Revitalizing Language. Reclaiming Identity. Reconnecting Culture.
At SNP Secondary School, students have the unique opportunity to fulfill their compulsory language credit by learning an Indigenous language instead of French. We offer courses in Mohawk, Cayuga, and introductory Ojibwe, allowing students to connect with the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Indigenous communities. This approach supports language revitalization while fostering a deeper understanding of identity, tradition, and community.
In this program students will:
Develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in Mohawk, Cayuga, or introductory Ojibwe.
Learn about the cultural significance and traditional contexts of each language.
Contribute to the revitalization and preservation of Indigenous languages within their community.
Indigenous language revitalization is a vital part of reclaiming identity, culture, and connection to community. At SNP Secondary School, we honour this by offering opportunities to learn and speak gwehoweh languages.
