Native Studies

Learn from the Past, Empower the Future.

Native Studies courses place Indigenous knowledge, history, and current issues at the heart of learning. These courses offer Indigenous students a space where their experiences and identities are reflected and respected, while also fostering understanding among all students. Topics include colonization, resistance, sovereignty, and the ongoing contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Native Studies courses center Indigenous histories, worldviews, and current issues. Indigenous students see their cultures and experiences reflected in the curriculum, while all students gain deeper understanding, respect, and awareness of colonization, resilience, and identity.

Yes, Native Studies courses are open to all students. Indigenous students see their histories, cultures, and identities reflected in the classroom, building pride and connection. Non-Indigenous students develop a deeper understanding of Indigenous worldviews and colonization’s impacts, fostering empathy, respect, and reconciliation.

No prior knowledge is needed. The courses are designed to be accessible and meaningful for all students, whether they are new to Indigenous topics or already connected to the content.
